Palm Centro: The newest smartphone of Palm

Palm and the mobile operator Sprint announced the nearest exit in the United States of smallest of the smartphones under Palm OS of the mark in the name of “Palm Centro”. Exit thus name “Treo”, the new Central one is designed to make it possible Palm to touch a new population of amateurs general public of smartphones of entry of range.

After Palm Treo 500, the European version under Mobile Windows of the terminal, the Central one will be available during a few months as from the semi October of exclusiveness at Sprint for a price in 99 dollars with engagement two years. Technical side, Palm Centro uses a system Palm OS Garnet 5.4.9, a square touch screen of 320 X 320 pixels, Bluetooth 1.2 and finally a numerical camera of 1,3 megapixel.

Palm years ago she was one of those companies that a legion of fans had that admired it by their capacity of innovation, to bring the computation to the palm of the hand, and by the impressive amount of software. Good, to my it at least passed that to me. They were first in developing an interface for small devices that was really powerful and simple to a the time. Soon they removed the Treo, one of the first cellular really usables ones with complete keyboard - and personally still I consider one of my cellular favorites. But after the Treo we have not seen anything really revolutionary leave Palm, and its operating system this so suspended that the only reason that lets use the Treo was because patch remained or reinitiated in each short while. Good, that and the fact that it had to only buy great trousers to me extra so that it fitted in my pocket.

Palm Centro also has 64 Mb of storage internal, of a port for memory board Micro SD (not SDHC), the whole for a compatibility with the networks bibandes CDMA2000 EvDO.

After hundreds of variants of Treo with slight improvements, and the inclusion of Mobile Windows like alternative of operating system, finally comes something new of Palm, and it is not unexpected a mini portable computer. The Palm Center, which we see in the photo, has been coming rumoring for months, and although it is looked like which we published a long time ago, this still more small and it is directed to young people. He is smartphone of smaller Palm of history, will have complete keyboard (that says is very small), sensible screen to the tact, it will work with an updated version of Palm OS (although it will not be ALP), and will have EV-DO.

Remain to know if with the exit of the iPhone in the market of the top-of-the-range terminals, Palm will be able to again find its supremacy of antan in the segment of the smartphones in the United States through a market from now on saturated with products, with integrated keyboard or not.

The Centro is significantly smaller and lighter Treo 700. Its smooth plastic case feels comfortable in the hand. Came across something interesting on Palm Centro at
